My To-Read List

Decisions, decisions. I am drawn to pick up so many books right now. I have the last book in my New Classics Challenge, Eva Luna to read, as well as books from other challenges. I have been wanting to read Dreams from My Father for some time now, and I love Charley at Bending Bookshelf's idea to read it before inauguration. Caridad Ferrer was generous enough to send me copies of her books, It's Not About the Accent and Adiós to My Old Life, and chica lit always is my biggest weakness! I can't hardly wait. Then there's the last two books in the Twilight Saga calling me. My to-read list keeps on growing and growing...

As far as the Twilight Saga goes I was torn. In some ways I want to put a little bit of distance between each book to feel the sense that others felt who read them as they came out and did not have the chance to go immediately from one to the next. In that case, I was fine to go on with one of the other books. However, my students were the deciding factor. Meyer's books are a hot topic in the classroom lately. I have had my faithful Twilight fan all year, but now her enthusiasm is infectious (and it didn't hurt to have all the buzz because of the movie). It is always fun to be able to encourage students with books and to have the common bond to be able to really talk with them about the books they are reading. Lately I have really enjoyed connecting with my students about the first book and today I was able to do the same with New Moon, but I have had to hold them off on their comments about the ones I have not read yet. So, I decided to continue on with the Twilight series to finish up in order to be able to help these conversations about books flourish rather than stunting them. I think that I will probably be finished with the final two by the end of this weekend.
