This fall my middle grades/YA reading has come to a screeching halt! I switched to a temporary one year position in teacher education, and I am in the last year of my doctoral studies and working on my dissertation. It has been a careful balance, and I have not been reading for pleasure (including books for adults) much at all - sigh. As a result, I also have not been accepting any new review copies - even though it is really hard at times to turn them down. I just know that I will not be able to write timely reviews, so that too is on hold for a while.
Over Thanksgiving break I will be reading The Help for my adult book club with my colleagues. I have heard it referenced as a cross-over book since it also captures the attention of high schoolers, so I may cross-post that on a couple of my blogs.
Other than that, this blog will probably continue to be pretty slow while I work my way through this year. My 8 year old is still mainly reading transitional readers, but before I know it she will be moving into middle grades novels, then no matter what is going on with my career, I should be able to have a steady stream of posts once again as I re-discover the joys of the genre through her eyes.
I have plenty of books that I can't wait to read on my Kindle and lining my bookshelves, so as I make progress through the terms and in my dissertation, I will have many books from which to choose.
